Juicy Deals: Juicy Couture on Sale at Haute Look

Heads up bargain seekers, Juicy Couture items are on sale at Los Angeles shopping club Haute Look until Sept. 2nd.  I'm not a big fan of their sweats, but I do like their jewelry and watches. Have you seen their "girly" charm bracelets? They are adorable. Some of the watches remind me of more expensive vintage Chopard, with the leather bands.   If you are not a member of Haute Look, click here to  join and shop as my guest. In the interests of full disclosure, I do earn a referral fee from Haute Look if you join as my guest, and then buy something.  However, since Juicy Coutrue is cute, but also pricey, finding it for 60% off is a good deal, so that is why I am featuring it here.

Simply Vera Fall Collection Arrives at Kohl's: Hits and Misses

Pictured: A faux motorcycle jacket to covet from Simply Vera Fall.

The new Simply Vera collection for Fall is now in stock at Kohl's stores as well as online.  I've always like Simply Vera as it delivers some of designer Vera Wang's classic styles, draping and embellishments without the price tag of  her Lavender label or boutique lines. The new Fall collection is a mix of some loud floral prints, great accessories and some great knit sweaters and cardigans.   Having taken the tour of the clothes, I wanted to give you a birds eye view on The Recessionista's top picks and a  few things that I personally wouldn't buy. Just because it's cheap, doesn't necessarily mean it's chic.

First up, I adore the faux leather motorcycle jacket pictured above. The motorcycle jacket is a hot item this fall, and the Simply Vera one is sleek, and well done. It's also very reasonably priced at $53.99.

Other looksI love are all the chiffon tops, layered with the muted colored cardigans and accented with blingy jewelry.   Check out the look below, mixing the pieces. The jewelry in the picture  is the Simply Vera Peacock earrings, necklace and bracelet.

Pictured: Simply Vera  Peacock jewelry accents the subdued gray and charcoal top and sweater.

The jewelry is multicolor stones with hematite plating.  The charcoal cardigan is the perfect backdrop for the bling. All pieces are under $50.00.  And don't forget to look for a Kohl's coupon code for extra savings.  The collection is full of good looking costume jewelry.  Check out the picture below of the  necklaces, earrings and bracelets all made with the purple faceted drop stones known as Tanzanite.  Tanzanite was a favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy and she had an exquisite bracelet in her jewelry collection made with Tanzanite stones.  When you look at the Simply Vera pieces, you can see why Jackie loved the Tanzanite.

Pictured: Simply Vera costume jewelry with Tanzanite stones.  All pieces under $50.00.

So now that you've seen the wow pieces (in my opinion),  let's talk about some the pieces that I find to be "not so grand."  Vera , I love you, but I don't get this floral shift dress at all.  The jeweled accents sitting a top the fuzzy netting just doesn't work, and the print is just kind of dowdy.  Avert your eyes when in store, or it could make you turn to stone if you stare too long.  It's definitely a fashion Medusa.  I would also avoid the Watercolor dress.  There are better looking dresses for these prices.  I feel the same thing about the floral tops, circle print knit tops and the brushstroke tops.  Having said that, there is plenty of great stuff in the Simply Vera Fall collection to take you through the autumn season, right into holiday parties.  Be sure to check out the boots and the platform shoes

Pictured: Lust worthy, the Devil might really wear Simply Vera platform heels this fall.

What do you think readers? Have you seen any of the pieces in store yet?

Best Dressed at the Emmy's: The Recessionista's Looks for Less

Pictured: Tina Fey on the Red Carpet at the Emmy's strikes the pose. (photo: People StyleWatch)

Yesterday was a great display of beautiful gowns and fabulous jewelry.  Two weeks ahead of New York Fashion Week's Los Angeles was the hottest ticket in town for a big fashion preview.  I love how fashion has become such a huge part of these awards shows.  And we get a front row, free seat at home in our living rooms via network TV.

So People StyleWatch was kind enough to share some great pictures from yesterday's festivities with me. Their photographers were in the best spot, to give us all the best view.   And it is so good to know, that they agree with most of my top fashion pic.  First up, check out the very gorgeous brainiac Tina Fey in her Oscar de la Renta.  In the words of Rachael Zoe, she is shutting it down! :) Black Lace over nude is very in this fall, and you can easily replicate Tina's look with this reasonably priced FX dress from $79.00.

Pictured: You can replicate Tina's look with FX's slimming black lace nude mesh slimming cap sleeve dress. (photo: FX)

Next up, what about Claire Danes? First she gave an amazing performance as Temple Grandin, and then she turned up on the Red Carpet looking like a nouveau Grace Kelly in a bronze Armani PrivĂ© gown encrusted with Swarovski drop crystals and iridescent sequin beading. The gown was simply stunning.  I gasped when I saw it.

It's not possible to replicate such an exquisite Armani Prive gown, but it you like beading and sequins on gowns, then consider a few more lower-priced, "blingy" looks.
I like the French Connection "Spicey Sequins" dress sold at Bloomingdales and New Look's short sequin dress.

Pictured: My top pick to channel a little of Claire's Emmy look, a strapless French Connection dress. (photo from Bloomingdales.com)

What did you think readers? Any favorite looks that I should be looking for cheap and chic matches for? Who was your favorite at the awards? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

Recessionista Red Carpet: Sofia Vergara in Suave Professional Hair Products

Pictured: Sofia Vergara rocked the Suave styled loose hair on the Emmy Red Carpet. (photo Getty Images.)

It's been a big night tonight in Los Angeles.  The Emmys were on! That means Red Carpet glamour galore with designer gowns, amazing hair and dazzling jewels (mostly borrowed.)  For me, one of the biggest surprises of the night was Modern Family's Sofia Vergara.  She definitely had the wow factor going on in her strapless Carolina Herrera gown. But here's the big surprise, her hair was styled using the reasonably priced Suave Professionals products.  Her look was very natural with cascading loose waves and minimal makeup.   She looked amazing, looking like a million without spending a million, at least on her hair products. :) My other favorite looks of the evening were Claire Danes with a sleek Grace Kelly look in Armani Prive and Kim Kardashian looking like a Greek Godess with her classic updo, attired in a white Marchesa gown.

I'm amazed that the Suave products produced such a high-end look.  But Sofia is not the only one who got the Suave treatment tonight.  Yours truly was treated to a Suave styling done by celebrity stylist, Luke O'Connor.  Luke is the owner of Lukaro Salon in Beverly Hills. He is also consultant for the ultra affordable Suave hair products. Tonight Luke hosted a very intimate Emmy viewing party at his salon on Beverly Drive.  Some of you may recall that I have featured Luke's styling tips here on the blog  for the Academy Awards, the Grammys and the Golden Globes among others.
Tonight, I actually got to experience some of Luke's hair magic and styling using the Suave products. Usually, I'm here hiding behind the blog and I don't like to be out front and show photos of myself. Howver,  me that I am making an exception.  He straightened my hair and blow dryed it to give me quite an Emmy award winning look.  See for yourself.

Pictured: Luke O' Connor and The Recessionista with my Suave styled straight hair.

Since I have naturally curly hair this straight sleek look is a nice change of pace. It's all held in place with Suave Professionals Sleek Anti-Frizz Cream  then a blow dry and then Suave Professionals Freeze Hold Hairspray to hold it all in place. Voila! My hair actually looks shiny and blond again.  Feat!  My fried Robin also got treated to a very glamorous do by Jeanne Eden at Lukaro including a cut, styling and blow dry.  Later, Jeanne even applied in a little make-up to compliment Robin's style.  It looked amazing.  See the results below.

Pictured: Lukaro Stylist Jeanne Eden with client, and new glamour girl Robin.

What I like most about this evening, and this story, is that everyone  can get celebrity results without celebrity prices. Of course, it may take some time.  Your own labor is the cost of the look, rather than the cost of the hair product.  Suave Professionals are sold at your local drugstore and are very affordable.  Many of the products are under $5.00 US.  My favorite is the Rosemary Mint shampoo which retails for $3.49 for 14.5 fl oz at Drugstore.com.  Honestly, I don't use it everyday, as I like to mix up my hair routine.  But when I do wash my hair with it, I like the fresh, non-over powering scent.

Pictured: The stylists at work at LukaroSalon. Super stylist and blogger Theodore Leaf is in the doorway. (photo: M. Hall)

If you're in Los Angeles for vacation or business, I highly recommend Lukaro on Beverly Drive.  The salon is beautiful and has a real 1920's California look.  If you're looking for a deal, stop in on Friday for a $40.00 US Blow-Dry and style.  The salon is full service offering skin care, nails and hair services.

Sunday Savvy: Temple St. Clair Jewelry for Target Review

Pictured: I was at Target early this am, and snagged this Temple St. Clair charm necklace which is already sold out online. (photo: M. Hall)

As some of you know, the collection of Temple St. Clair for Target jewelry arrived in stores today.  These pieces are replicas of the high-end jewelry Temple St. Clair designs using semi-precious stones and  14k gold.  Temple St. Clair for Target is made with colored cubic zironia and 14k gold plated brass.   Most of it looks good enough, but I would say, not outstanding.  I bought the charm necklace pictured above for $49.99 and I'm still debating whether or not I will keep it.  The charms are a bit bigger than I would like, but they are pretty.  Here's a close up look of the stones.

Pictured: A up close look at the charms on the  Temple St. Clair charm necklace: the Amulet and the Yellow teardrop. (photo: M. Hall)

Here is a view of all the pieces that my Target had on display.  There are pretty drop earrings, and tear drop necklaces.   My local store didn't have any of the bracelets and only one ring for me to look at.  Below is the entire selection of what I saw.

Pictured: A at the Target jewelry counter this morning displaying a limited collection of the new Temple St. Clair pieces. (photo: M. Hall)

I was really interested in getting the ring with the little red hearts but they didn't have it. When the cashier looked through the stock at the jewelry counter, she noted that there were not many pieces sent to the store for sale since this store was now focusing more of stocking groceries.  She urged me to check for most of the Temple St. Clair collection online at target.com/temple.  That proved true as I went to a second Target store and they didn't have any of the pieces in the store.   I then came home and looked on line.  The charm necklace I purchased and the ring were both sold out.  I'm not surprised, the pictures of the pieces on Target online are beautiful looking. In person, the jewelry is pretty, but it does not live up to the high-end, luxury look of the pictures in the Target advert.  I have better looking costume jewelry to be sure.  My Jacqueline Kennedy jewelry from QVC is better looking.  However, given the price for Temple St. Clair at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, her Italian renaissance inspired jewelry line is out of reach for the average consumer (approx. $2,000 US and up  for some pieces). The Target trinkets are worthy replicas, but they ain't the real thing and they don't look like it in my humble opinion.  But, if you're looking for a taste of Temple St. Clair for under $50.00 US, then Target is the place, and it's the only place to find it.   What do you think readers? Were you able to find any Temple St. Clair at your local Target store today? I see some of the pieces are already turning up for sale on eBay.

Vena Cava for Bloomingdales Aqua Launches

Pictured: Vena Cava for Aqua Ruffled Silk Chiffon Dress, picture from Bloomingdales.com

Surfing around the web this morning to check out what's new in affordable fashion, I literally stumbled upon the new Vena Cava Aqua collection for Bloomingdales.  The collection is due in stores on Sept. 1, but it's already on Bloomingdales.com.  You may remember Vena Cava was part of the Gap's budget Khaki collection last year.   So far, I'm liking the Aqua look for Bloomies way better than the Gap venture. Accordining to Bloomingdale's their collaboration with the designer is a limited-edition.  Prices range from $98.00 to $198.00.  So this collection is priced higher than the average Target designer collaboration, but you can also expect the quality to be much better.  Fabrics used included silk chiffon, jersey and assorted polyester blends. The Vena Cava for Aqua capsule collaboration features 19 unique styles. The sizing is noted as being "contemporary" so, read that is more fitted, smaller women's sizing.

"As Aqua's first collaboration, we wanted to offer a special collection that our dedicated customers will love as much as we do," says Frank Doroff, vice chairman and GMM of ready-to-wear and B-direct for Bloomingdale's. "With Vena Cava's tried and true design aesthetic combined with their fresh take on current trends, we know Aqua is in good hands."

Do check it out to see the assortment of pleated short, flirty skirts, chiffon tops, geometric print dresses and feminine silk chiffon dresses like the one above. I like Vena Cava's feminine and light looks.  I'm putting this on on my watch list for the Bloomie's Brown Bag sale.  Save the date for an in-store appearance by the Vena Cava designers at a September 11 at the Bloomingdale's New York City store on 3rd Avenue, just one day after Fashion's Night Out. To learn more about Vena Cava, click here to check the ELLE fashion files.

Mayor Villaraigosa Stages Fashion Economic Intervention for Los Angeles Fashion's Night Out

Pictured: A favorite vintage photograph by the brilliant Lillian Bassman from Harper's Bazaar.

Mayor Tony  broke it down to for the fashion faithful tonight in downtown LA. He held a little press conference to promote the festival of fashion coming to LA on Sept. 10th.  The Mayor gets it.  He may not be a fashionista, or even a recessionista, but he's deep into economic stimulus and if fashion can help, then why not get behind it and stay behind it ?  It's a good strategy.  Has Arnold thought of this?  Gubernator, fashion could be your best new friend. The Mayor knows it.  He told it all.   "The event will showcase the creative talent -- behind the 5,000 fashion lines located here -- who are constantly inventing fresh, new ways to express the diversity and culture of our great city through their designs", said Mayor Villaraigosa.

My dear readers, did you realize Los Angeles has over 5,000 fashion lines here? And it's not a secret that California is suffering in this economy.  So on Sept. 10 from Venice's Fashionable Abbott Kinney shops, to the Beverly Center, to Melrose Ave let Fashion Ring with Fashion's Night Out Los Angeles! :) I'm jiggy with it. Let's get the global fashion celebration party started. I don't know about you, but I just might pull an all nighter because there is going to be so much ground to cover this year.  Last year, I toughed it out at Nieman Marcus Beverly Hills. There I was with Kiefer Sutherland, looking at the "Traffik" book and sipping champagne.  Really dreadful way to pass the time.   This year,  I might have to change the whole program! Los Angeles will have fashion block parties complete with celebrity and designer appearances all over the city. Look for celebrations in these  Los Angeles’ diverse "hoods" of fashion: Melrose Ave., South Robertson Blvd., West Third Street, Abbot Kinney, Los Feliz, Downtown Los Angeles, Westfield Century City, Westfield Topanga, The Grove, or West LA's central hub, Beverly Center!

Pictured: Yes We Can! Emmy winner and Top Tweeter Will.i.am  will join Fashion's Night Out LA.

Today the Mayor told us, that Fashion's Night Out is going Hollywood.  He announced that Grammy Award-winning singer of the Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am will be co-hosting the official Opening Ceremony at the Beverly Center at 5pm alongside Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Vogue's Lisa Love.  Will.i.am is totally cool, and very hip on social media.  I heard him speak at TwitterCon earlier this year, and he's a big Twitter user with a huge following. Born here in LA, will.i.am attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles. In 2001, he began designing his own signature clothing line, i.am, which made its official debut in 2005 at the Magic Apparel Trade Show in Las Vegas.  In addition to Will.i.am co-hosting, many celebrities and designers will be present including designer Randolph Duke. Love his Oscar gowns and coverage.

Beverly Center (BVC) will serve as central hub for the City's official Fashion's Night Out celebration, hosting the opening ceremony as well as multiple fashion shows  and parties throughout the mall's retail stores. Fashion's Night Out at the Beverly Center is open to the public with free self parking from 4-10pm. Their major events that evening include star-studded large-scale fashion shows on the 6th floor Center Court, Bloomingdale's Men Suiting Event, and Macy's "Denim Rocks" fashion show hosted by Vogue's Senior West Coast Editor, Lisa Love.

FashionTwoPointOh!  will be holding a Blogger's Cafe at The Grove : September 10th will see Los Angeles' newly formed coaliton of style Bloggers celebrate their first ever official Fashion's Night Out from 7pm-9pm at a central hub at The Grove. The new group, formed by Los Angeles blogger Kelsi Smith, Director of Special Programs Social Marketing at Fashion LA Inc. ,supports Los Angeles bloggers on a local level. Can you even imagine how many Tweets will emanate from The Grove of Sept.10 will FashionTwoPointOh! unites? To follow all the happens, check out FashionTwoPointOh on Twitter.

To get all the details on Fashion's Night Out Los Angeles go to http://www.fno.lacity.org  and click on each registered retailer's name to be directed  their websites. Updates are also available at the Twitter @fnolosangeles. Now, here's the important bit about the savings and the deals.  There is shopping incentive for everyone September 10 to shop. There will be  limited edition sales, incentive sales, gift with purchase, celebrity appearances, DJs, gallery installations, custom fashion design opportunities, free manicures and spa services autograph sessions, giveaways, gift bags, photo booths, celebrity hosts and much more. And of course, you know there has to be a Tee shirt! FIDM helped make a cool one. I have to get it.

Chanel Goes Viral with BLEU DE CHANEL by Scorsese

As I've said before right here on my favorite blog, The Recessionista, I love it when the designers and fashion houses find creative ways to use social media to market their brand.  I just saw the new Bleu de Chanel viral video for the Men's fragrance of the same name, and I love it. It's a great little art film within a social media commercial.   The film is set to the Rolling Stones song, "She Said Yeah" and channels another great memory from the 1960's the film, "Blow Up."  There's even a recreation of the scene where the photographer gets down on the floor with model.  The Chanel video was directed by Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese. It's certainly way more than a typical commercial for fragrance.  I'll be curious to see how many views it gets on YouTube, Chanel.com and beyond! :)  As always with the viral, viewing is free, but you must bring your own popcorn. We know Scorese loves the Rolling Stones.  He directed their 2008 documentary, "Shine a Light." No wonder he chose them to be the backdrop for his 60's inspired tale of a fashion photographer.  I wonder what Coco would think?

BlogHer RetailMeNot.com Giveaway

best ny skyline
Pictured: My favorite picture of New York from the harbor on the ferry heading to Ellis Island.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of RetailMeNot.com, I receive a partial sponsorship to the recent BlogHer 2010 conference in New York City!  RetailMeNot.com graciously granted me a full conference pass. I paid my own lodging, meals, airfare and transportation costs.  BlogHer was a fantastic opportunity to meet up with some bloggers and make contacts with both fashionistas and recessionistas.  I must admit, I did feel a bit out of place though not being a Mom Blogger.  It seemed like much of the brand opportunities, er conference,  involved courting the Mom bloggers to get their sponsorship for  "products for the family."  I have to admit, I am still scratching my head over that.  I've seen more fellowship at Fashion Week among bloggers, than I did at the recent BlogHer conference.  BlogHer, to me, became sadly more about parties and Swag than sessions.  There was very little drive to really learn the craft of social networking.  But after all, it's hard to concentrate on how to blog, or index your site with search engines when you are being Bedazzled ala Dudley Moore  and tempted with SWAG and nights on the town.  So a big thank you to RetailMeNot.com for reaching out to a single fashionista, with no kids.  I was definitely in the silent minority of BlogHer attendees. The few, the proud, the single. And don't get me wrong, I love me some free stuff, I just thought there would be equal focus on the sessions.  That was not the case. Just my humble opinion.

Now back to some savings and Swag for you, my dear readers! RetailMeNot has always been one of the tools in my savings bag of tricks.  The site is a great go-to resource for printable and online coupons for over 65,000 stores! If you are making an Internet purchase, remeber to always check RetailMeNot.com for a coupon code before you buy.  To get the most recent updates on deals, follow RetailMeNot on Twitter @RetailMeNot or on Facebook. As with every nice thing that I receive via Blogging, I do like to share something with my readers. So, I am giving away the RetailMeNot Swag Bag from the conference.

Gowns from Fashion Week Spring 2010 Debut at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Pictured: Tasashi's one shoulder, blue gown turned up at the Emmy's this weekend. (photo courtesy of Tadashi Shoji )
There's been so much going on in Los Angeles this weekend, it's really a fashion whirl.  From the casual Glee apparel launch, to the elegance of the red carpet at Saturday's Creative Emmy Awards, we've been treated to a wide array of fashion looks. The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards honor excellence in television technical categories such as makeup, editing and cinematography. In the past, the awards haven't gotten as much publicity as the acting, producing and directing awards.  I'm glad to see this changing with many headlines over the weekend about the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.  In Los Angeles, I know so many really talented people who work behind the scenes to bring us this entertainment, so it's great to see them honored.  And of course, fashion plays a huge party in the festivities.  Two gorgeous Tadashi Shoji  gowns from the upcoming Spring 2010 Fashion Week walked down the red carpet Saturday night.  The above ice-blue, one shoulder  gown looks like something you think a Greek goddess might have worn.  The gown was worn by Anna Gunn, of Breaking Bad as a tea length dress.  She looked wonderful in the shortened blue iridescent silk chiffon draped one shoulder dress with jewel detail from Tadashi Shoji's Spring 2010 Collection.

Pictured: Tasashi's  silk draped white halter dress (photo courtesy of Tadashi Shoji )

But there was more than one Tadashi on display. Jennifer Stone of  the Wizards of Waverly Place wore the above cream silk crepe draped halter gown from Tadashi Shoji's Spring 2010 Runway Collection.  I love the details on the halter top,  the draping, and sculpting around the waist.   You may recall that Mo'nique wore Tadashi last year at the Academy Awards.  I hope we see more elegant gowns like this next week at the Emmy Awards on Sunday.  Check out funny lady Kathy Griffin on the red carpet this Saturday.  I love her playful, yet chic look.  The dress compliments her red hair!  I'm still trying to find out who designed her dress. Any idea readers?

I'm on high-alert to see all my fashion favorites on the red carpet.  I can't wait until next Sunday.  I love the pageantry of the awards.

Glee Clothing Line Premieres at Macy’s

Pictured: Some of the Glee cast members at Macy's  Jenna Ushkowitz, (Tina), Kevin McHale (Artie) and Heather Morris (Brittany). (photo: M. Hall)

Yesterday Macy's premiered their new Junior's  clothing line at the Beverly Center mall here in Los Angeles.  To say the line was enthusiastically received by fans would be an understatement.  I was surprised to see both The Huffington Post and The New York Times announcing the birth of this "apparel line."  Having seen the clothing, and the excitement generated by its launch, the Glee line really has nothing to do with fashion or real style.  Instead, it is a line of souvenirs for those that enjoy the very popular Glee TV show.  This clothing is just a little something for the fans, which number in the millions.  That means, the sellers of this line, Macy's and FOX , hope to make more than a little something to bolster their revenues.   Although, this line is sized, marketed and priced for the younger (under 30) set, I saw all ages of consumers at the Glee launch yesterday. The pieces will be priced from  $19.99 to $34.99 and sold at over 600 Macy's stores.  So what can you expect? Lots of Tee shirts with Gleek logos, hoodies and even a Cheerio uniform top ala character Sue Sylvester.  Ironically, I don't believe any of the Glee cast menbers were wearing clothes from the clothing line.

Over 200 hundred fans waited yesterday for the doors to open at Macy's in the Beverly Center to get a glimpse of three of the show's cast members,  plus autographs and some goodies from the line provided by Macy's. I spoke with Jennifer Haag, Allison Reeve, Taylor Hensling, Katie McGuire and Keslet Fallon (above)  as they waited in line for the Macy's event to start. When I asked why the group got up so early to wait in line before the store opened, they replied in unison, "Heather!"

It's great marketing to launch this line right before school begins.  I can just imagine all the kids asking their parents for Glee gear for school, especialy the back pack.   And that of course is the goal.

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Macy’s announce GLEE apparel line

Just when I thought there were not going to be any more TV inspired :) apparel  lines a new one comes along.  Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Macy’s have announced the GLEE apparel line based on the GLEE TV show.  I happen to really like GLEE.  The kids do a great job with the singing and dancing, and the plot lines are engaging.   GLEE is the nouveau version of the old Judy Garland /Mickey Rooney MGM Musicals.  It follows the same formula of giving a spotlight to some very talented kids to sing and dance within the format of their school GLEE club.  Look for in-store events at Macy's stores around the country.

If you're in Los Angeles today, Aug. 21st, you might want to check out the in-store event with some of the GLEE kids at Macy's Bevery Center.  From 2 pm to 4 pm Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Kevin McHale (Artie) and Heather Morris (Brittany) will be at the store doing a one-day-only poster signing.  If you are one of the first 300 customers who make a $50 purchase of Glee merchandise at Macy's Beverly Center, you'll get to  meet the cast members and receive an autographed poster from the cast. Woo-hoo! :)  Check out the poster below.

The apparel line from Awake, Inc. features an extensive line of fashion apparel including t-shirts, fashion tops and hoodies priced from $19.99-$34.99. From music inspired designs to sporty athletic apparel and more, the line offers fashion for every type of “Gleek”.   I think my niece is going to want this.  Frankly, I would rather get her some GLEE stuff, than the Material Girl 80s look.  Just say'in.

“In just a short period of time, GLEE has inspired millions of fans,” said Martine Reardon, executive vice president of marketing for Macy’s. “It is our goal to extend that excitement to the Macy’s customer with the products we’ll be showcasing in our stores. There’s something so refreshing about GLEE, and we are committed to channeling that into exclusive fashion merchandise that will impassion GLEE fans across the country.”

Jones New York Launches Fall Fashion Campaign Shot in NYC's Grand Central Station

High-end, but not too high-priced clothier Jones New York has a launched an amazing ad campaign to show off their fall fashions.  The ads were shot by one of my favorite photogs,  Annie Leibovitz.  The way the campaign is styled recalls vintage ad campaigns. Everything looks so Mad Men to me.  And, the backdrop of New York's Grand Central station really highlights the vintage looks.  Thank you Jackie O for organizing to save Grand Central from the wrecking ball.

Fittingly, the campaign is called  “Empowering Your Confidence”.  The women do look kind of strong don't you think? Look at those power suits above! :)  Jones New York says the entire campaign is influenced by “A Woman’s Nation” , a crucial part of the Shriver Report that highlights the growth and influence of women in the home, at work and all around the world.  I find it very cool that  Jones is celebrating female empowerment, not only through fashion, but by also offering advice, tips and inspirational quotes via “The Little Black Book”, a digital collection of accomplished female professionals such as Bobbi Brown, and one of my favorite bloggers, Ariana Huffington. Look for this collection of great advice, soon on JNY.com.  Meanwhile, check out the new Perugia  by JNY.  I am literally jonesing for this sweater for fall. Just look at the rich autumn brown hues, and the boat neck collar.  Classy.

Pictured: This elegant Perugia Elbow Sleeve Ribbed Boat Neck Top,  will be available on Sept. 2.

There's nothing like looking rich, but not shopping rich.  The sweater retails for $79.00 and I adore the elegant "elbow" selves.  I'm already looking for a JNY coupon code to buy! :)

e.l.f. Cosmetics Giveaway and Smoky Eyes Tips

Pictured: e.l.f. Cosmetics' Smoky Eye Tips and Two Eyeshadow's I am giving away. (photo: M. Hall)

Recently I was introduced to e.l.f. Cosmetics during the BlogHer show.  When it comes to eye make-up, I am all about the quick and easy.  P&G Make-up artists gave me a fantastic look at the PG Home booth at BlogHer, but I had to admit, that it's not something I would or could do myself at home. But,  I'm always trying to learn how to implement the tips at home.  One thing I liked at both P&G and e.l.f. Cosmetics, is that both companies offered some great beauty tips. I want to pass along the e.l.f. Cosmetics tips for Smokey Eyes that I received from them, along with a special savings code on e.l.f. Cosmetics good until Sept. 16.  Enter Code "TAKETWENTY" at checkout for 20% off all makeup for a limited time.

So now, drum roll please, here is what I know about creating "Smoky Eyes" from e.l.f.  Yes, I learned it's not something you get from sitting around the campfire! :)  Check the illustration above for further details.

1) Define the eye, by lining it with a good dark eyeliner.
2) Contour using a light eye shadow at the brow bone, and the inner eye.
3) Blend a mid-tone eye shadow along the the eye from the lash line to the crease with a flourish! :)
4) Highlight by adding a deeper shade of shadow to the outer eye above the mid-tone shadow you just applied.
5) Now get all dramatic, by relining the whole thing along the "lash line."

There you go! That is the extent of my knowledge, all learned from the e.l.f. Beauty Book.  Did I miss anything? Is there anything you do that I need to learn from? If so, leave a comment to let me know.  The reader with the best beauty tip will win the 2 striking e.l.f. eye shadows from the picture above! Leave your comment here by August 26th to win  the  2 eye shadows. When you comment, leave your email address in the comment like so: shopper at yahoo dot com.

Lauren Conrad Models Her Kohl's Collection for PeopleStyleWatch

Lauren Conrad's new Fall collection is in at Kohl's and is modeled this week by her in a feature in People StyleWatch.  When the line launched last year, some skeptics scoffed at Lauren's foray into budget fashion. However,  the "LC"  line has been incredibly successful for Kohl's and items frequently sell out.  The line features warm colors like the rust oversized shirt above, lots of denim and leggings.  And best of all, everything is under $55.00 and you know you can always find a coupon at Kohl's or Retailmenot.com to bring the prices down further.  For college kids heading back to school, the price point and the cute styles are very attractive.  I like the LC Camisoles for wearing under more expensive, filmy designer blouses. I'm also loving the new chiffon sweater pictured below.

Pictured: This LC Chiffon Trim Sweater in Pearl Gray is a winner for $44.00

As People StyleWatch notes,  Lauren Conrad for Kohl's shows "off a range of separates that are both feminine and romantic."

The Recessionista Explores the New York Garment District--Sucha Deal!

Pictured: A dress and long cardigan from a New York showroom. (photo. M. Hall)

Well, it's a tough job, but someone has to do it.  Shopping.  Yes, we spend years out of our precious lives on the quest for clothes, handbags, shoes, jewelry and more.  In 2006, the Daily Mail published a study saying the average woman spends 8 years of her life shopping.  More recently, our friends at Fashionably Marketing Me referenced  a study showing that the average women spends 3 years of her life shopping.   And people wonder why fashion blogs on shopping are so successful? It's the epic quest my dear readers! The quest of the chic and the cheap is all consuming for many of us.  During the BlogHer conference, shopping savings behemoth Shop at Home  threw the gauntlet down to Bloggers (who applied to be chosen to go on a shopping excursion) to see what we could do with $150.00 in cash during a 3 hours trip in the New York Garment District.   Needless to say, Shop at Home had no idea who they were dealing with in The Recessionista blogger.  The words shopaholic don't even come close to my love for shopping in search of bargains. But it's lucky for you dear reader that I am such a fanatic, because I am going to share with you a few of New York's best kept shopping secrets. With the help of shopping tour guide, Pamela of The Elegant Tightwad, we visited some amazing show rooms that offered their samples and off the rack guides for much, much less than retail.  Although it's still called "the Garment District" there really is no NYC Garment District anymore with factories where workers actually sew and make fabrics. What remains are show rooms where the designers and manufacturers sell to retailers. If you are a brick and mortar store or online retailer who walks into the show rooms with a seller's permit, you can expect to pay wholesale for the goods.  However, on certain days of the week, some of the show rooms are open to the public (this is true of the Los Angeles California Mart) and some showrooms sell their discounted goods to the woman off the street who knows where to look for the deals. Some items are samples that will never be produced for retail sale, some are from the previous season and are close-outs, and some just didn't sell and they languish in the showroom until a shopper like me appears  One of my spies tells me that the designers would rather sell the close-outs and cast-offs in their showrooms at 50 % to 80% off  rather than send them to a store like TJ Maxx or Marshalls where they  may only make as little as 5 cents profit per 1 dollar of sale on their items.   So, if you live in New York City, or have the occasion to travel there, here is some of what I discovered. Check NY Magazine's helpful list of the sales for more information on where to go.

Pictured: This amazingly elegant Linda Richards coat was featured in Oprah Magazine, and is sold at upscale retailers. (photo. M. Hall)

Linda Richards: Luxury Coats and Accessories,  Open to the Public on Fridays, but call first.  If you are looking for an elegant, and beautifully tailored coat, this is the place to go.  Linda Richards also sells separates, and beautiful cashmere sweaters.  I scored a gorgeous mock turtleneck cashmere black sweater and sleeveless black lace top.  If I didn't live in California, I would have bought the about red coat, but the days when I need a good winter coat are sadly over. Linda Richards sells a variety of sizes, both Misses and Women's.

Pictured: A blueberry dress with intricate pleating and tucks from JSong's Spring Collection.

JSong International features pantsuits, blouses, dresses and tops that are made of linen and natural fabrics.  The color palette is very bright and cheerful. Designer Way Zen is influenced by embroidery and detail that she saw in China.  The clothes are very feminine, and feature lots of little details like petals, pleats and pin tucks. Each piece is hand finished. I picked up a gorgeous teal linen top with fine tailoring. JSong describes their line as "The world's most beautiful embroidered fashion."  Some of JSong maybe too elaborate for everyday dressing, but it's worth a look.

Pictured: One of the gorgeous silk tunic tops shown off by our tour guide with an amazing swirled pattern. (photo. M. Hall)

One of the show rooms we visited featured some of the most beautiful European Sweaters you will ever see.  I went a little crazy there, but they had great pieces from a great European manufacturer.  This showroom had gorgeous sweaters, silk tops and lovely dresses. They also had short jackets.  The color palette  and range from the brands was  amazing, as you can see from the tunic top held by our tour guide above.. Also, know your European size before you shopping.  At this showroom, all clothing was in Euro sizes.  I picked up two beautiful sweaters here.  One a tangerine cardigan with scalloped edges and the second a gorgeous azure blue cardigan.  Both were deeply discounted!

Pictured: My new  top with the gathered, bottom and delicate puffed sleeves.  Je t'adore!  (photo. M. Hall)

The final stop on the tour featured some amazing  finds especially if you love Vintage Vogue styles, the designs of Ossie Clark and the prints of Celia Birtwell. This was the final stop on the Shop at Home tour, and I fell off the budget wagon here, but I got great deals!  With the help of a cash infusion from Nichole's Nickels  (in exchange for a check) I was able to pick up an amazing  designer silk black top with red roses that looks like a reproduction of a 1910 pattern. The top is from  a terrific design house and their fashions are sold at Neiman Marcus. They used to have an outlet here in Los Angeles, so I may have had a West Coast advantage in finding this one.   I also picked up an amazing one of a kind Mauve jersey top with a high collar and dolmain sleeeves.

Bottom line, if you go to New York for business or pleasure, do a Google search on where there are show rooms that might be open to the public. To find sample sales in New York, or your areas, sign-up for Thrillist updates. Most of the showrooms don't take credit cards or checks. Click here to read more about our shopping adventures from Fantabulously Frugal.

Note: Special thanks to Olympus for loaning me the new Olympus Pen digital camera  which I used to take pictures of the shops, and the clothes, as noted above.  All photos by M. Hall except the JSong dress photo.
